A SITAR DOESN’T EAT FOOD

One day, Emperor Akbar was strolling with Birbal in the garden. Birbal said that he knew a person who sang very well.

He said, “Your Majesty, in my opinion, no one can play sitar better than him in this kingdom.” The emperor was a little bit surprised to hear this.

After the appointment of Tansen as the royal musician, he had never heard of any other musician. He said to Birbal, “OK, bring him in the palace tomorrow. Invite him for dinner.”

Next day, the emperor organised a feast. Many dignitaries and artists were invited. Birbal also reached the palace with the musician.

The emperor went to Birbal and asked, “Is this the musician you were talking about?”

Birbal nodded his head. Seeing him empty-handed, the emperor asked him, “Where is your sitar?” Why haven’t you brought it with you?”

The musician bowed before the emperor and said, “Your majesty, I am here for dinner. My sitar doesn’t eat food. That’s why I didn’t bring it here.” The emperor understood his mistake and kept silent.
