ਉੱਤਰ – ਚਿਲ੍ਹਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਐਂਗਲੋ – ਸਿੱਖ ਯੁੱਧ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਲੜਾਈ ਸੀ। ਲਾਰਡ ਹਿਊਗ ਗਫ਼ ਜੋ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਸੀ, ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਕਿ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਚਤਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹਿਊਗ ਗਫ਼ ਨੇ ਚਤਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ 13 ਜਨਵਰੀ, 1849 ਈ. ਨੂੰ ਚਿਲ੍ਹਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਬੋਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਘਮਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਛੱਕੇ ਛੁਡਵਾਏ।

उत्तर – चिलियांवाला की लड़ाई दूसरे आंग्ल-सिख युद्ध की एक महत्वपूर्ण लड़ाई थी। ब्रिटिश सेना के कमांडर सर ह्यूग हेनरी गफ को सूचित किया गया कि सरदार चतर सिंह शेर सिंह की सहायता के लिए आ रहे हैं। अत: सर ह्यूग हेनरी गफ ने चतर सिंह के आगमन से पूर्व 13 जनवरी, 1849 ई. में चिलियांवाला में शेर सिंह की सेना पर हमला बोल दिया। इस भीषण युद्ध में सिखों ने अंग्रेजों के छक्के छुड़ा दिए।

Answer – The Battle of Chillianwala was an important battle of the Second Anglo-Sikh War. Sir Hugh Henry Gough, the commander of the British army, was informed that Sardar Chatar Singh was coming to Sher Singh’s aid. Therefore, before the arrival of Chatar Singh, Sir Hugh Henry Gough attacked Sher Singh’s army at Chillianwala on January 13, 1849. In this fierce battle, the Sikhs defeated the British badly.
