Only a discerning eye can value finer things.

It was winter time.

The king set up a court in the open in the sun. At the same time a person from another state came there.

He said – I have two pieces. Both are one of a kind. One is a diamond and the other is a piece of glass.

If your courtiers recognize these differences, then the diamond will become a part of your treasury and if they won’t be able to recognize it, the state will give me asharfis of gold equal to the value of the diamond.

The king, looking towards the courtiers, accepted the proposal for the honor of the kingdom. But not even a single person from his court could catch the difference .

Finally, a very old man came forward and said – Give me a chance too. I can tell the difference between these two.

The old man made the difference with the understanding gained from the experience.

When asked by the foreigner, he told the identification of the old man right.

The king asked – How did he recognize?

The old man told – “Both the pieces were kept in the sun, which became hot was the glass and the diamond that remained cool”.

The same difference is seen in us humans as well, the one who keeps calm even in the heat of the circumstances is like the diamond and the one who falls apart is ordinary glass.

What we learnt from this story – Circumstances confound us, but those who face them calmly are called diamonds.
